The Stormaxe Clan
Clan Stormaxe has a long history in the mines of the Glittering Ramparts, dating back to well before the establishment of the Six Cities. They refused the offer of peaceful annexation under the Six Cities in ancient times, but they have always preferred to wage their wars with the evil races and monsters of the mountains. The Sixian leadership thus considered them a safe border and never pursued the issue with force. Clan Stormaxe secured their fame and their standing in Leonara when their King accompanied Leonard in his final battles against Talozad. King Veraz Stormaxe established a lasting friendship with Leonard during the harsh campaigns of the war, and helped in the following reconstruction efforts we now call the founding of Leonara.
Clan Stormaxe’s fierce independence and pride in their illustrious history has contributed to their status as a long standing nuisance to the rulers of Erdahome and the Guilds of Leonara. Although Clan Stormaxe took part in the re-unification of the Six Cities as Leanora, they maintain a distinct separation from their countrymen. Some consider it arrogance, but most of the clan simply does not care what happens outside their treasured mountains. They prefer to trade directly with customers for their precious metals and magically crafted weapons and armor, bypassing the Guilds of Leonara completely.
Outside the city of Leo lies a small plot of land granted to King Verax Stormaxe by Leonard himself in the years following the Liberation War. The Dwarven clan originally used this as a small home away from home for the stone masons they sent to aid in the reconstruction of the market city. As Leonara’s guild-based monopoly on trade took hold, however, the dwarves realized that they could use the land as an invaluable trading post for their own quality goods. The Stormaxe Trading Post has developed a reputation over the last few hundred years as having some of the finest quality goods in Leonara, and for a fair price too.
