Hundreds of years ago, the region known as Six Cities was dominated by a towering demon possessing tremendous strength and dark, magical powers. Talozad devastated the land nearly single-handedly, though an army of evil creatures accumulated at his feet to spread the destruction far and wide. The people of Six Cities endured a terribly destructive defeat that hardly even deserves the label of “war.” No one knows where the great demon came from, but the story of his conquest and his eventual defeat is legend amongst the varied denizens of Six Cities, now known as Leonara.
For Talozad was finally banished by the mighty human paladin, Leonard. Leonard lead a campaign of resistance in the days when all six of the mighty Six Cities were burnt-out husks and the great demon reigned supreme. The devout paladin of Pelor lured hesitant Sixian farmers and craftsmen out of hiding by leading daring raids against the army of Talozad with his small band of heroes. Despite Leonard’s successes, Talozad’s pride leads him to dismiss Leonard’s exploits as insignificant, and the demon didn’t bother to hunt down Leonard’s growing army while it was still in its infancy. Instead, Talozad focused his attentions on driving his large slave force towards the completion of a citadel of epic proportions, his new home in Six Cities’ plane of existence: The Spire. Eventually, Leonard lead his fully fledged army in the liberation of those slaves and the final destruction of Talozad’s followers. Talozad himself, overwhelmed and cornered by the combined might of Leonard and his followers, was delt the final damning blow by Leonard’s great war hammer.
Leonora is now a land of internal peace and prosperity. There are mighty warriors yet securing the land formally known as Six Cities, but they are border guards for the most part untroubled by major conflicts. The stories and statues left over from the time of Leonard and Talozad are known by all, but are simply ancient history to most. Those who are studied in demon lore, however, know that it is simply a matter of time before the banishment inflicted by Leonard wears off, and Talozad comes to their plane once more. And when that time comes, Talozad is not likely to be taken off guard again.
